It's that time of year to slow down and snuggle in. Are you ready? Do you have the right gear? Let me tell you how I do it here on the farm.
FIRST YOU NEED FIRE: I can always tell when it's time to light the stove, because Kia, normally an outdoors dog, suddenly wants to come in. She's got a perch right next to the wood stove for these cooling days. I've hauled a big pile of wood to the back door and loaded the wood box in the porch. I haven't yet turned on the main heat in the house because the wood stove is enough this time of year.
SECOND YOU NEED SOUP: While the dog lulls on her bed, I sit on the chair next to the stove, with a warm bowl of soup held under my chin. Yes, it's true, I love to eat in front of the fire and not at the dining table this time of year. Covering my lap is a wool Pendleton blanket to keep me warm... and a dish towel just in case.
THIRD YOU NEED WOOL: After I finish my soup, I like to spend time listening to whatever audiobook I have queued up while I work on one of my wool felted hats. There is something about both wearing and working with wool this time of year that just makes the snuggle all the better. In fact, there are a number of new wool felted hats in the Farm Store as of late because of this urge of mine!
I've got my little farm all buttoned up and ready for colder weather. The gardens are resting until next spring and I have my winter walking gear ready to keep me moving as the days shorten and the temperatures drop. It's going to be a very snuggly winter, I suspect!
Here are a few things from the farm store you might want for your own winter snuggle session:
This firewood is seasoned for burning this year.
These wool hats can be washed on a cold cycle in the washer and shaped to your head just the way you like! They are super warm and very stylish.
Of course, we have cookies, too! I know, I know! Lots of you insist my cookies are the quintessential snuggle-in need! Or perhaps you need a chicken coop? William just completed one of his "upcycled" masterpieces. Text him if you're interested.
Thank you, Katie, for the very fine note! We've enjoyed all the "Love Notes" left on our board over the years. It's always fun to hear from you!
Always, sending love from the farm,
Sarah
