Maple Syrup Sweet Heart of the Farm

Writer's picture: Sarah BrennerSarah Brenner

You may recall that our Sugar Shack went up in flames last year. Fortunately, nothing else was damaged in the fire and nobody was hurt. William just said, "That was a dumb move building it out of wood! Next time a guy should build it out of cement or steel."

Well, next time is here! Yesterday he and our friends Benny and Kyle started putting together the new sugar shack -this one out of steel. Boys like the big equipment, so they used the Lull and the Tool Cat to assemble the arc pieces of this grain bin that Benny jockeyed at some swap or another. They'll have to drop the chimney pipe down through the top and set the boiler up inside. I'm as curious as you to see how it works!

We haven't tapped trees yet, but hope to get that started by the end of the week. Hopefully we'll have the first batch of 2025 bottled next week sometime.

I hope to get some SAP COFFEE made as well. I'll keep you posted.

FARM STORE NEWS

Our Farm Store is filled to the brim with goodies! One of my favorite new things is a Morel Dry Chili Crisp spice blend. You can heat our sunflower oil and add the spice blend for a traditional Chili Crisp, or use the spice blend as a dry sprinkle on any savory dish. I've been eating it all week sprinkled on this and that and told William I might not want to sell any more of it as I am completely addicted! It has such unique and delicious flavor! Wow, just wow. Let me know what you think if you've tried it.
