Farm Day Camp Anyone?

Well I do declare! I'm here to tell you, you need a little farm in your life - a little ADULT DAY CAMP adventure! You need to join me, teacher turned farmer, in my cozy plant filled farmhouse in the company of kindness and brilliance. You need to experience first hand the healing nature of Driftless Wisconsin. You need to form a community to help you transition towards health and healing and into a more fulfilling life. You need Farm Lunch. Yum!

Adult DAY CAMP? Let me explain.

For the last eleven years I have been on a path of major transition. I traded city living for country living, left a marriage and a teaching career, remarried, launched new businesses and faced major health hurdles. None of this was easy, but I found a path and am now following my dreams (or trying to at least).

My little farm has helped me though this process. It's one of the most nurturing places on earth and I'd love to share it with you. Ever since I landed here I have been inspired to use this space as a healing classroom. I've hosted community "Farm Lunches," corporate retreats, weddings and private events. Now, I'd like to offer a series of Adult Day Camps where participants can enjoy the farm and its natural healing beauty while learning, playing, creating, reflecting, making friends, tasting, discovering and hopefully laughing a lot!

The Day Camp concept has been a part of my adventures in agritourism, but really sprang up during my recent deep dive into recovery (post pacemaker) with a focus on health, wellness and longevity - I love the idea of creating a Blue Zone where people live long healthy lives well into their 90s and beyond. Unfortunately, we're a bit of a health mess in the US. I'd like to be part of change. One step at a time and one person (well, eight would actually be ideal!) at a time is my goal. Each camp will be designed to promote health, healing, nutrition, community engagement and joy in the lives of participants.

It's a lot of work creating the plans and materials for these camps, but I have two ready to launch.

There are VIEWS from every window!

DRIFTLESS DIRT FARM ADULT DAY CAMPS

Since I love writing and teaching writing, (and because it's winter so inside is best) the first two camps will use story and writing techniques as a means to self-discovery. Don't be afraid if you think you can't write. You don't need to have any fancy writing skills to participate. If you have ideas, you can write!

Perhaps you're nervous that you won't know anyone? Well, chances are if you are reading this, you know me! I'll be there for sure. One of the things I am realizing about our society is that too much disconnect is causing fracture and anxiety. I hope these camps offer like-minded people a sense of community and a place to belong.

Are you in one of life's messy transitions or just feeling uncertain about your next steps?

In this day camp we will address life’s intense transitions, learn ways to uncover our true selves and discover what we really want. We will participate in a variety of discussions and writing exercises to reveal our inner selves and true desires. This retreat will help you gentle whatever life transition you face and maximize your learning in a community of others going through similar changes. It will teach you to uncover who you really are outside of society’s reflections and identify your values and beliefs so that you can move forward with a bright clear path. You will reflect on your life in order to cultivate your humanity and live with purpose.

Ideally we have a group of eight to ten - bring a friend, or come with the desire to make a few new ones. Bring your favorite writing utensils, a new journal or fully charged laptop.

In the winter months these camps will be hosted at the farmhouse on the Driftless Dirt Farm. Dress accordingly…that means warm socks or house slippers and layers are best.

FUTURE DAY & HALF DAY CAMPS

The following day camps and half-day camps are in the works for some warmer weather fun.

Farm Hike and Scavenger Hunt (Self guided)

Farm Fitness Team Challenge

Nature Arts & Crafts

Women's Retreats of Various Kinds

Food Forward Fun (cooking classes, food prep, growing, harvesting, fermenting, etc.)

I'd love to hear your thoughts about the camps I have planned or for future events. I am committed to working primarily with adults, although may build some teen camps into my planning. Camps for kids is not in my wheelhouse at the moment.

There it is...a new ball rolling - one that has been in the works since I landed on this little farm nearly eleven years ago.

I hope you will consider joining me for one or both of these day camps. I think they will be very productive, gratifying and fun!

Sending lots of love from the farm,

Sarah
